Pollution, green union, and network industry

In a network industry, this paper investigates the impact of effects on total pollution under presence union interested to “local” environmental damages (e.g., polluting production processes damaging workers’ health and local environment where workers live). Under monopoly, it is shown that, one hand, tend increase investments in cleaning technology but, other output; consequently, are ambiguous. We also find that reduces (increases) with increasing intensity if market sufficiently large (small). Moreover, pollution-reducing result appears when existing effects, union’s concerns technological efficiency large. These findings qualitatively confirmed Cournot duopoly, offering empirical, as well policy, implication.
